Hi Fabiola, followers are actually quite essential to your stats. Although it may or may not have a direct impact on your stats, it does influence it somehow.

For example, when you write an article, your followers (not all of them though) may be notified about it. Some of them will see it on their main/featured pages. Again, not all of them will see it and it also depends on how many people they’re following. The more they follow, the lower the chances of your work reaching them.

That being said, the more followers you have, the higher the chances of your work reaching them. And the more followers your work reaches, the higher the chances of your work getting the reads it needs to make you money.

But as I mentioned, at the end of the day, what matters the most is your content because it is what keeps your readers’ attention onto your article and makes them read it until the end.
