I Still Give 50 Claps To Stories That I Like Reading Because It Helps The Writer Reach A Bigger Audience

It also feels good knowing that you’ve helped someone even if it’s from a simple gesture

For many of you new writers on the platform, you may not know that clapping on an article was actually one of the most important things for a writer on the MPP back in the day.

Claps were basically the metrics of how much money a writer could make from his/her article.

I remember seeing articles from big-name writers on the platform getting tens of thousands of claps which meant that hundreds of people were reading their articles.

I mean, an article that received over 10,000 claps means that at a minimum, at least 200 people clapped for it — providing each of them gave the maximum 50 claps.

And the amount of money an article makes also depended on the number of claps it got, which is why back then, the more claps an article gets, the more money it would potentially earn.

It didn’t really matter whether the article was read or not.

A paying member could literally just give claps without even reading a single word of the article…
