Personally, if you have another website or blog outside of Medium, then yes, getting good Google rankings could help you gain traction for your other sites. If you’re only on Medium (like me), external Google rankings don’t really make a difference, unless those external readers end up being paying Medium members.

So it really depends on whether ranking high in Google matters much to you or not.
