RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY

The Real Reason I Don’t Believe In Religion Anymore Is Because Of People, Not Religion Itself

They say that first impressions are important, but every other impression after that is just — if not more — as important

Ever since people have found out that I don’t believe in religion anymore, I’ve been asked why. How did a person like me, someone who grew up in a religious family, was taught to read the Bible from cover to cover, was taught to pray and follow the teachings of God, not believe in religion anymore?

How can I not believe in the one thing that I was taught to be the ONLY thing that is certain and true in life?

I’ll tell you how.

By example.

What do I mean by that?

I mean it exactly as how I say it. By example. By the example of the people who practice the religion. By the example of those who claim to represent the religion, and everything it stands for.

I don’t believe in religion anymore, not because of the religion itself, but because of the people who follow it.

I’m not saying that I agree with everything the religion tells me. There are a lot of things about religion that I don’t agree with but at the same time, there are also many things about religion that I do agree on.

However, when the people who claim to be willing to put their lives on the line for the religion show their true colours, it paints a bad picture.

I’ll give you an example where I have family members who are exactly like what I just mentioned. They profess their undying love for God, and for their religion. They swear that they’re willing to die for it and will do anything in their power to protect it.

They shout out from the top of their lungs just how wonderful their God and religion are and how their religion is one that is full of love and support.
